Reflecting on 2025 at the Kitega Centre – David Clemy

As I reflect on 2025 at Kitega Centre, I do so with a sense of gratitude, responsibility, and clarity.

This was not a year defined by rapid growth or bold headlines. It was a year of grounding, of aligning our values with our daily practice, and of strengthening the foundations that make long-term transformation possible.

Becoming Before Doing

One lesson stood out repeatedly: development is not only about what we do, but about who we are becoming.

Across the Centre, I watched individuals grow in confidence, ownership, and leadership. Persons with disabilities moved from participation to production. Community members shifted from waiting for assistance to stewarding what they already have. Our team learned to slow down, reflect, and design programs that build dignity rather than dependency.

These changes are often quiet, but they are deeply significant.

Inclusion That Is Lived

Inclusion at Kitega is not a principle we state, it is a discipline we practice.

In 2025, inclusion took form in practical ways: skills training that leads to income, learning spaces that respect different abilities, and community structures where people are encouraged to contribute, lead, and decide. When inclusion is practiced daily, dignity follows naturally.

Capacity as Our Direction

As the year unfolded, it became increasingly clear that Kitega is growing into a capacity development and learning centre.

Beyond delivering programs, we are investing intentionally in leadership development, facilitator training, and community-based learning models that can be replicated beyond our immediate context. Our goal is not to hold transformation at the Centre, but to release it into homes, groups, and communities.

Stewardship and Responsibility

With growth comes responsibility. In 2025, we became more deliberate about clarity of roles, accountability, and learning from challenges. We continue to ask hard questions about sustainability, alignment, and impact, because trust, once given, must be stewarded carefully.

Looking Ahead

As 2025 draws to a close, I am mindful that this year has shaped us quietly but profoundly. It has refined our focus, deepened our conviction, and prepared us for the road ahead.

We step into the next season with humility and hope, carrying forward the lessons of this year and inviting others to walk alongside us. Whether you are encountering Kitega for the first time or have journeyed with us for years, you are welcome to learn with us, reflect with us, and be part of what is unfolding.

Best wishes for 2026!

David Clemy
