Our Story

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love... (1 Corinthians 13:13)

Our Journey through the Years

Kitega Community Centre is situated in Kitega village, Kawolo Sub-county, Lugazi Municipality, Buikwe District, approximately 40 kilometers from Kampala, Uganda’s capital. The Centre supports several communities in Buikwe, Mukono, and Kayunga Districts. Despite an agricultural economy, many residents face unemployment and low living standards.

Our Story

Kitega Community Centre, founded by Rev. Canon Silas Musoke with support from the Kingserve Trust in Scotland, became an independent NGO in 2004 after initially operating under the National Association for the Mentally Handicapped. As an interdenominational organization, we welcome individuals from all backgrounds without discrimination, aiming to create a nurturing environment that fosters growth and enables everyone to thrive.

Our Focus

For many years, Kitega Community Centre has been dedicated to supporting children with learning difficulties, who are often abandoned by their families due to misconceptions that their disabilities are curses or linked to evil spirits. This neglect has deprived these children of the care, rights, and opportunities they deserve.

Our Impact

At Kitega Community Centre, we believe that individuals with disabilities are made in the image of God and deserve the opportunity to thrive. We provide a supportive environment where they can access special learning opportunities and develop a range of practical skills. Many of those we serve have been denied the chance for formal education, and our Centre offers them the resources and guidance they need to flourish.

We focus on skill development tailored to each individual’s strengths and interests, fostering personal growth and independence. Our programs promote social interaction and emotional well-being, empowering participants to build confidence and self-reliance.

Part of our community sensitization efforts includes cultivating various community-led development initiatives aimed at promoting understanding and acceptance of individuals with disabilities. By fostering awareness and encouraging local involvement, we strive to create a more inclusive environment where everyone is valued as a reflection of God’s image. Our commitment ensures that each individual has the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to a compassionate and inclusive society.

Our Mission

To empower individuals with disabilities and marginalized communities through advocacy for their rights and the promotion of inclusive, holistic development. We strive to create a supportive environment where all individuals can realize their God-given potential, lead dignified lives, and actively contribute to a vibrant, inclusive society

Our Vision

To cultivate vibrant, sustainable communities where every individual is respected, valued, and empowered to lead a dignified life while actively contributing to the growth and development of their community.”

Our Faith Statement

Kitega Centre’s mission is inspired by our faith in the love of Jesus Christ for all, especially for those who are poor, sick, and suffering. Guided by His teaching, ‘Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me’ (Matthew 25:40), we are dedicated to serving and uplifting the most vulnerable members of our community.”
