Ebenezer Medical Centre: Where Life is Being Added

Something is happening in Katungulu that is difficult to fully explain, but you can feel it when you arrive.

It is not just that people are being treated.

It is that life is being added.

In just the first three months of 2026, the Ebenezer Community Health Centre has served hundreds of people, with almost all of them walking away healed. In March alone, 230 patients were attended to — and at times, every bed in the ward was full.

But the real story is not in the numbers.

It is in the moments;

An elderly person who could not make the long journey to a distant hospital now finds care just nearby.

A patient brought in unconscious, not even aware of what they are suffering from, begins to recover.

A few more minutes without care, we are told, would have meant death… from something preventable.

And you begin to realise this place is not just treating illness. It is an interruption of loss.

There is also a deeper reality we are seeing. Many people are living with conditions they do not know high blood pressure, silent complications, simply because there has never been access to testing. And so people come, sometimes late, but now… they come because there is now a place.

At the centre of this is Simon.

In the last weeks, the entire village went dark after electricity lines were stolen. The health centre too was left without power. But care has not stopped.

Simon continued late into the night using the torch from his phone.

Because even in the dark, people were still coming.

And for many, this was still their only place.

You begin to understand this is not just work. This is a calling.

We are preparing to begin immunisation services, opening the door to care for newborns and young children. There is also a growing desire to walk with the government, to strengthen what is already taking shape here.

But even as we look forward, we pause and recognise what is already here.

A place where people no longer have to choose between distance and survival. A place where care is present.

A place where life is being restored daily, quietly, consistently. And for this, we give thanks.
