Community Health

At Kitega Community Centre, we believe that access to basic healthcare should not depend on distance, cost, or circumstance.

Community Health exists to bring care closer to people especially those who would otherwise go without.

This work is rooted in a simple belief:

Healthy individuals are the foundation of healthy families and communities.

Why It Matters

In many of the communities we serve, access to healthcare is limited.

People often face:

  • Long distances to health facilities
  • High costs of treatment
  • Delays in seeking care
  • Preventable conditions becoming serious

As a result, families carry burdens that could be avoided with timely and accessible support.

Our Approach

We focus on accessible, community-rooted care.

This means:

  • Bringing services closer to where people live
  • Supporting early intervention and prevention
  • Working alongside families and local systems

We do not replace existing health structures, we strengthen access and connection to them.

Ebenezer Community Health Centre – Katungulu

At the heart of this work is the Ebenezer Community Health Centre in Katungulu.

This facility was developed as a response to the needs of the surrounding community and continues to grow as a shared space for care.

The centre provides:

  • Outpatient consultation and treatment
  • Basic laboratory services
  • Pharmacy support
  • General health services

With a focus on:

  • Affordability
  • Accessibility
  • Respectful care

The health centre serves thousands of people within the surrounding communities—offering a closer and more reliable option for care.

Health Outreach & Awareness

Health is not only about treatment—it is also about prevention and understanding.

We work within communities to:

  • Raise awareness on common health issues
  • Encourage early care-seeking behaviour
  • Share practical information on hygiene and prevention

This helps reduce avoidable illnesses and supports families to make informed decisions.

Supporting Vulnerable Individuals

We prioritise those who are most at risk, including:

  • Children
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Families facing financial constraints

Support may include:

  • Access to basic treatment
  • Referrals for further care
  • Follow-up support where needed

Working Together

Community Health is not a standalone effort.

We work in collaboration with:

  • Health professionals and volunteers
  • Local partners
  • The wider Kitega programmes

This creates a more connected and responsive system of support.

What We Are Seeing

  • Increased access to basic healthcare
  • Earlier treatment of common conditions
  • Reduced strain on families
  • Greater awareness of prevention and hygiene
  • Stronger connection between communities and care

The Journey Ahead

We are working to:

  • Strengthen services at Ebenezer Health Centre
  • Expand outreach and awareness
  • Improve access for vulnerable groups
  • Continue building a community-based approach to health
