At Kitega Community Centre, our work is shaped by how we have come to see people and community.
For many years, we focused on supporting children with disabilities, many of whom were hidden, excluded, or misunderstood.
Along the way, our understanding grew.
We began to see that limitation is not only physical.
It can also be in how people see themselves, focusing on what they cannot do, instead of what they can.
Because of this, our work begins with sensitisation of hearts, learning to see people differently, and to embrace everyone, with or without disability.
From this place, dignity is restored, and people begin to recognise their value and potential.
We do not tell people what to do.
We believe people are the experts of their own situation.
Our role is to walk alongside, creating space for reflection, trust, and action.
As people begin to see differently, they begin to act differently.
Over time, this leads to stronger individuals, more stable households, and more connected communities.
