Located in Kitega village, Kawolo Sub-county, Mukono District, approximately 40km from Kampala, Uganda’s capital, Kitega Community Centre serves the rural village of Kitega and its surrounding areas, including the nearby town of Lugazi. The local economy is predominantly agricultural, but a significant portion of the population faces unemployment and low living standards.
Our Story
Kitega Community Centre, a Christian organization, was founded by Rev. Canon Silas Musoke with support from the Kingserve Trust in Scotland. From 1999 to 2004, it operated under the National Association for the Mentally Handicapped and became an independent NGO in 2004. The Centre is interdenominational and welcomes all individuals without discrimination. Our mission is to foster a better world by creating a nurturing environment where everyone can thrive.
Our Focus
For many years, Kitega Community Centre has focused on supporting children with learning difficulties, often abandoned by their families who believed their disabilities were curses or linked to evil spirits. This neglect deprived these children of essential care, rights, and opportunities.
Our Impact
Kitega Community Centre has stepped in to demonstrate that with adequate educational, social, and emotional support, children with disabilities can acquire the skills needed to become self-reliant and valuable members of their families and communities. We are dedicated to ensuring that every child has the chance to learn, grow, and contribute to a better, more inclusive society.
