October 2022 Updates – James Otim

Greeting from the Kitega Centre family, we have all the reasons to celebrate and be thankful for the gift of life.
The last few weeks the Centre has been busy.
The Centre children are excited to come and find a place where they are happy and safe.

Edwin and the patience washing the cups and plates after meals.

There is a high number of children on the waiting list, with a lot of hope to join the Centre and find a
new home for them.

The Centre children are encouraged to learn and get involved in so many activities at the Centre and this
is possible because of the devoted team members and social workers working hard to see the children
develop different skills and knowledge

The team was able to dialogue with parents of children to discuss issues affecting the learning capacity
of their children, the different meeting has produced new ways of working and supporting the children
while at the Centre.
Through games and play the children have been able to learn a lot of things while the Centre, the staff
was not left out too.

Medical Centre in katungulu.

Ground leveling is Ongoing work at the medical Centre is for the now with a lot of hope starting to clear
the compound and planting trees and flowers.
Plastering of the building is underway with the windows and doors being fixed at the moment

Community programs.
The maize mill has been able to provide maize flour at a reasonable price to the Vicoba members and
the wider community and animal supplies from the mill have also been available to support animal
husbandry.
The mill has been able to partner with community schools to keep supplying maize flour on a contract
agreement, hence bringing more funds to the company. The mill has created employment to over 5
Vicoba members who are directed involved in the day to day running of the Mill.

Event of the year!
David and Phiona wedded at the end of September. This was a special wedding with a special message
to the community and individuals serving Gods kingdom. The Kitega team, community and friends from
around the world attended the event.

Several projects and individual businesses have been affected, however, VICOBA members are confident
that these economic challenges in the country will not stop them from achieving their dreams and goals.
They are supporting each other and meet regularly to discuss and plan the way forward.

Vicoba plus refresher course training will be starting off with over 20 + group in Uganda will be trained.

and other role at the Centre as assigned.

Team Vicoba group has started up a vegetable garden to in the community of Kitega which is one of the
group project, it is aimed at creating more income in the group hence increasing in the amount of funds
in the group accounts.

The team is targeting the Community Centre to be the immediate market for the cabbages and
tomatoes that will be a harvested from the project. This is because the Centre consumers the cabbages
on a daily basis for the children’s and staff meals at the Centre.
Prison ministry and legal aid.
A team of local church mission volunteers who are serving in five different prisons where Malachi dads
and Hannah’s gift is enrolled, went through a three weeks refresher training workshop. We are thankful
to the lifeline global ministries for making it possible for Kitega Centre to reach out to inmates in
different prisons in five different communities.

Friends and volunteers at the Centre.

Peter and Avi spent some good time at the Centre as well as, the children at the Centre learnt of skills
and games from them, the Centre has growth over the years with the support of friends with different
skill and knowledge.

More games and sports materials were donated to support on the learning capacity of the different
children at the Centre.

Voice of Hope – Linda Hopper

“Back at Kitega! I arrived at the beginning of June, after being delayed for three weeks because I needed
a replacement passport. It is difficult to believe that I am now over halfway through my time here!

As I look out from Shalom, the early morning mists drift around the eucalyptus trees. They are quite still
most of the time, but before a storm they bend with the strong winds and the shimmering leaves dance,
bringing beauty to the scene. There has been a lot of heavy rain and thunderstorms, for which the
people have been praying, hoping to get a good harvest from their gardens. The Staff VICOBA group has
a. project to bring an income by growing vegetables on an adjacent piece of land. Staff can be seen
working there in the early morning before beginning their day’s work.
There are many more trees now at the Centre; there are new buildings -the small craft shop has been
given an upper storey, which will become a coffee shop, the thatched roof recently finished. There is a
new kitchen offering more space for cooking and catering. The toilet block has been upgraded and a
small pavilion built on the field. There have been changes in the student population at the Centre. Some
students had to move to other places during the pandemic and they have not yet returned. There are a
few new faces and there are students waiting to join the Centre School
