I normally don’t write long posts, but this one is very special to me, so bear with me
This weekend my heart was filled with so much joy. For the last few days I had the extreme pleasure to host a visit from my very good friend David Clemy, who traveled to the US all the way from Uganda, Africa.
For those who have known me for a while, remember that in 2015 I traveled to Uganda, Africa where I volunteered to work with children with disabilities at the Kitega Community Centre near Lugazi.
My work there went so far beyond just volunteering, it was life-changing, and turned out to be one of the most fulfilling and memorable things that I had ever done in my life. It was there where I met David and stayed at his home. Both David, and the entire Kitaga community welcomed me with open arms and took such good care of me during my visit.
This weekend I had the opportunity to return the favor and to show David how we live here in Southern California. He got to see the ocean and walk on a pier, taste an In-N-Out Burger, and take a ride on a Duffy through Alamitos bay and the Naples canals.
His visit was unfortunately short, but on his last night here my entire family got together for a huge feast to celebrate David‘s visit.
As we broke bread we prayed, we shared many stories, many laughs, and a few tears. At the end of the evening the entire family proudly presented David, and The Kitega Community Centre, with a check for the families and children of Kitega.
David, I am so thankful that our paths crossed and we have become friends. You, Uganda and Kitega have had such a huge impact on my life. Thank you for taking the time to come and visit and spend time with us. Thank you for the memories, the laughs, and the stories. I will remember this visit forever.
Safe travels back to Uganda, and until we meet again my friend.
