June 2021 Update

Greeting from Kitega Centre for the past few months, the Centre was able to open up and resumed into operation at a half capacity with a number of 20 children coming from Monday to Friday every week. This was possible due to the government easing some of the sectors into normal including schools and other institutions in the country.

The Centre resuming operations at half capacity was based on the experience   on the home visits and reports gathering for some of our community networks and volunteers, which indicated some of the challenges the children were facing during the lock down and the effects of staying at home for so long some of which included child torture and hard labor.

Children ministry

Children coming to the Centre remains as the only hope for most children to have some peace of minds and also stay away for all the possible violation of their rights.

Basing on the stories and experiences shared by the children faced during and after the lock down were so hard to believe, this has called on the team to develop different ways on how to help and support the children at home and those coming at the Centre on a weekly bases.

One on one counseling and talking to the children is ongoing.

Home visits for those children who are still at home because of the numbers that were allowed to attend the Centre is also ongoing, basing on the reports from the home visits shows how much the children are missing and wanting to come the Centre.

The team believes basing on the finding the children are much safe while they are at the Centre that protects them from all sorts of violations and abuses they are facing while at home and the community at lager.

Community programs

Tuwone project phase II

We were blessed to have another opportunity for a grant to support on the communities and people who were highly affected by Covid-19.  The project is active in all the beneficiary communities of the Centre. The Centre is providing healing and hopes.

Child protection program is one of the key activity in Tuwone, basing on the high rates of defilement, Rape and child labor our volunteers and community networks are working together with the team here to handle some of this cases and also make necessary referral if any.

We have register a numbers of gender based violates cases, which has forced the team to organize an awareness workshop mainly to address some of this issues coming up.

A team of community networks are out in the communities sanitizing the general community on some of the basic steps of safe guarding themselves from covid-19 and their children.

Prison ministry / legal aid.

The Centre is blessed to have its legal aid offices up and running and servicing entire community now, basing to the community out cry for the services, the Centre has contracted a lawyer/counsel to handle and provide legal aid support and advices to the community, this has come with a challenge of meeting some costs and court processes and fees.

A lawyer/counsel who is now based at the Centre is providing legal aid advices and services to the affected people and individuals in Community.

During community legal aid clinics that are ongoing in the different communities, a numbers of issues are being raised for example land eviction/grabbing and domestic violence that need the attention of legal steps to be taken.

In the same way the Centre hosted students from the surrounding school of Home stone for a day with an objective of Understanding the act of charity and the importance of carrying out charity work in the communities. The Centre children had the opportunity to share their own experiences   based on how the community out there treats and views them.

Light moments were shared mainly in outdoor activities.

A lot of gifts were given to the Centre children by their friend
