February news updates.
Greetings from Kitega community Centre, February 2020 is here,we are thankful for the friendship and partnership and pray that this year brings peace and blessings!
Thank you for making the Kitega story possible.
Patron’s Message outgoing.
As the outgoing patron this will be my last message to all the many children, staff, community and supporters of the Kitega Community Centre with whom I have walked over the last twenty five years or so.
And in parting, I want to say a big thank you! Thank you not only for all you have done for, and within, the Centre, but also for what you have done for me personally. As I look back over the trials, ups and downs we have had over the years, I can see how much Kitega has changed and grown beyond words to express and, likewise, how much Kitega has helped me change and grow. Yes, I may have been able to contribute in a small way but I have gained so much, much more. Sharing in the life and growth of Kitega has helped me grow spiritually and emotionally and for this I thank God who has worked through us all.
Message from the patrons incoming.
The year 2020 marks the first full year in which we will be your Patrons and we are very excited about this. I first hear about Kitega in 2011 when Daudi came to Scotland and spoke at the International Christian College about the work of Kitega and I knew God was telling me to go and visit. Little did I know that this would completely change my life? I am so excited that my whole family is involved and invested in the work of Kitega and the people of the community.
2020 is a busy year for Kitega with hopefully the completion of the Umoja centre which will be a great asset for the community, and we pray for the work that needs to happen so that this will be ready to use soon. We thank God for bringing Derrick to the centre to teach sign language and give these deaf children a voice and a means to be able to communicate with others. It was brilliant to see the photos from the Deaf Christmas and that will be an experience I’m sure those children will never forget. VICOBA is ever expanding and making the lives of so many community members better than before. Scotland could really benefit from something like VICOBA and we pray for the continued work of the VICOBA groups and the people involved, and yet to be involved.
Centre Children..
The children are back to the Centre for the first session of 2020, and here are some of our new children at the Centre.
They both share the same names Shandia!!, they are very happy to join the community Centre and being part of the family.
February was filled up with so many activities here at the Kitega.
The tailoring students are working so hard right away for the start of this new session, we are thankful for the good health of Centre children who have reported back this year.
The centre has recieved several volunteers that have supported the local team working with the children.
Tusisimuke Community Development
Functional adult literacy (FAL)
Meet Kalisa one of our FAL students. Kalisa is learning English and hopes to learn computing in the near future and later become a commercial driver.
Kalisa comes to the Centre every Thursdays from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm for lessons; he walks some kilometers to the Centre just to fulfill his big dream of becoming a professional driver employed in one of the big companies in the community.
FAL is inspiring so many people in the community.
VICOBA Ministry.
The Vicoba plus maize mill was finally commissioned and started operation early last month 2020 the mill was able to produce its first flour and the Vicoba members were full of excitement witnessing their dream come true. We are confident that people will be able to lift themselves out of poverty and solve food insecurity in their homes.
Kitega staff and Volunteers:
We have been blessed with several volunteers in the last months. They are serving at the Centre and their contribution is evident. Serving at the centre has always been a win -win, the centre benefits while the volunteer learns quite a lot through the experience.
The Samuel’s worldwide Ministries family from United States will be serving at the Community Centre and their presence has filled various gaps at the Centre mainly their involvement in the daily activities with children and mission work in the different communities.
One month already, and we can’t be more thankful for the involvement and above all for the life changing experience for the Centre children and their Children too.
Sarah Jane and Clare from Scotland visited the centre for a few days, it was great to see them back at the centre.
Hannah from Scotland is here to serve for the next six months, Hannah is a teacher and will be serving at the centre and several local schools.
Fanny is also at the Centre for one month, she will be working on an Agricultural research project powered by the University of Polytechnic – Valencia aimed at learning and improving local farming and agricultural productivity
We are happy for the good health and thankful for the lives of all the staff and supportive staff of Community Centre .
Community Outreach/Visits
The enrollment of pupils at katungulu primary school has greatly improved due to the support provided, several children now prefer to come to school because they are assured of having a meal.
