Ricky Hansen at Kitega
Six incredible weeks at the inspiring Kitega Community Centre in Uganda. What a privilege it was to spend my time there, meeting some truly incredible people and hearing their stories.
I will never forget these kind, caring, loving faces, and I hope I get the visit them all again in the future.
In my time at Kitega I was lucky enough to get involved in the centre programs for children with additional support needs, work with children who were unable to make it the centre, complete home assessments, prescribe and fit wheelchairs, support the VICOBA (Village Community Banking) groups and continue with community sensitising, aiming to reduce stigma on disability by educating the community in conferences and local schools.
Kitega Community Centre does some incredible work both within the walls of the centre and also within the community to help all individuals that need it. Whether it be meals for their pupils, education, wheelchairs, school fee contributions, shoes, mosquito nets, or a calf to provide milk for a child unable to swallow solid food, the centre is there to help.
Kitega Community Centre can only continue this incredible work with the help of us all. They rely on volunteers offering their time and also donations to continue building on their efforts.
Please visit the website and read about the work they do. Anything you are willing to contribute can make such an impact on these lives.
