Choosing the Kitega Community Centre as the site to conclude my four years studying Community Health Education at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is the best decision I have ever made.
Though my purpose was to teach others about health in the community, I was the one who learned the most. The Centre kids, the staff, VICOBA group members, Katungulu and Sunlight primary schools I worked with, and even the newly founded KCC volleyball team became my Ugandan family.
I loved learning about the wonderful culture while building the life-lasting relationships. I was blown away by the warm welcome I received and the kindness everyone showed me. I look forward to professionally applying the skills this experience has taught me, and I cannot wait to come back soon.
